Strengthening Communities Through Sustainable Fruit Tree Development in Musanze

EPALSCO LTD continues to support environmental restoration, food security, and community livelihoods through the Musanze Fruit Tree Development Project, implemented in communities surrounding Volcanoes National Park.
The project aims to supply high-quality fruit tree seedlings to 12,000 households while establishing ten fruit orchards in selected schools to promote sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, and improved nutrition among local communities.
During the reporting period, significant efforts were dedicated to the maintenance and management of established orchards and distributed fruit trees. Key activities included regular weeding, Irrigation, replacement of dead seedlings, mulching, pest and disease monitoring, pruning, and technical support to beneficiary households and schools. These interventions have been essential in ensuring healthy tree growth and improving survival rates across project sites.
The project has achieved remarkable progress, with thousands of households now with hope to benefit from access to quality fruit tree seedlings that will contribute to increased household nutrition, income generation, and climate resilience. The establishment of ten school orchards has also created practical learning opportunities for students while promoting environmental stewardship among younger generations.
By combining community engagement, orchard management, and environmental conservation, the Musanze Project continues to contribute to sustainable landscape restoration and improved livelihoods around Volcanoes National Park.
